SAM AU-YEUNG / 歐陽洛森

A budding Hong-Kong-born saxophonist, Sam Au-Yeung is now serving as a music performer in Tai Po Baptist Church. As the first music student to be awarded The D.H. Chen Foundation Scholarship 2020, Sam is currently pursuing his second undergraduate study in music at The Chinese University of Hong Kong. He is majoring in saxophone under the tutelage of Mr. Michael Campbell, former bass clarinetist of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, and Mr. Jacky Leung. He is currently the principal saxophone of the Chung Chi Wind Orchestra, the assistant music manager of TWGHs Wong Fut Nam College, an orchestral performer in the Music Children Foundation, and one of the saxophonists in the Hong Kong Chamber Wind Philharmonia. Recently, Sam has been awarded the Talent Development Scholarship. He also achieved Dean’s list during the first year under the scholarship offered by the Kowloon Motor Bus Company Limited. Being offered a full scholarship in 2018, he was selected to represent the Hong Kong Schools Music and Speech Association to participate in the European Youth Summer Music Camp at St. Catherine’s School, Surrey in the United Kingdom, taking up the post as the saxophone soloist of Glazunov’s Saxophone Concerto at the grand finale. He has humbly won numerous prizes and recognitions, including the LTCL diploma in Saxophone Performance Sam received with distinction in the same year. 

Graduated from the TWGHs Wong Fut Nam College, Sam has been the chairman of the school senior band in 2017-2018. He has given various ensemble performances on many occasions that include the TWGHs Board of Directors Inauguration 2017 and AXA Hong Kong Streetathon at Kowloon East 2017. Sam was invited to perform as a guest soloist in different events, such as the 2016 PAS Percussion Day, the 5th KMB Scholarship Ceremony, the 2019 KMB Annual Awards Ceremony, to name but just a few. 

In 2017, Sam was the winner of the Senior Alto Saxophone Class in the 69th Hong Kong Schools Music Festival and was interviewed by RTHK Radio 4 on 14th October. In 2018, Sam won the championship in the Open Class 'Parsons Music Scholarship for Wind, Brass and Percussion Instruments' in the 70th Hong Kong Schools Music Festival. In the following year, he gave a solo performance at the 71st Hong Kong Schools Music Festival Opening Reception. He then performed the Glazunov Saxophone Concerto under the baton of Mr. Gerard Salonga with the Hong Kong Philharmonic in a concert titled ‘A Musical Encounter with Hong Kong Philharmonic - Fundraising Concert 2019’. In 2020, Sam was the First Prize winner in the 2020 Grand Prize Virtuoso ‘Salzburg’ International Competition. He was also invited to perform the duo piece ‘Paganini Lost’ with Virgil Fok, a young local saxophonist in S’way Music Studio. This year, Sam was the Second Prize winner in the 10th “Cittá di Massa” International Competition. He was also the Third Prize winner in the VII Saxophone Category of the North International Music Competition 2021.

Sam是一各香港薩克斯管演奏家,現為香港中文大學音樂系二年級生。Sam現師承簡博文及梁國章。他於最近成為首位陳延驊基金會獎學金的音樂得獎者,亦獲得由香港特別行政區政府所頒發的才藝發展獎學金。他於去年獲得九龍巴士公司(九巴)獎學金,並榮獲院長嘉許名單。Sam現時擔任崇基管樂團薩克斯管首席、香港室樂愛樂管樂團及音樂兒童基金會的薩克斯管演奏家。Sam亦積極參與教會事奉,盼能以音樂分享信仰。二零一八年,他獲學校音樂及朗誦協會挑選成為香港代表,遠赴英國參與歐洲青年暑期音樂營,期間更在音樂會中負責獨奏部份。同年,他考獲英國倫敦聖三一音樂學院LTCL演奏文憑。

Sam畢業於東華三院黃笏南中學,曾為中學高級管樂團團長。二零一七年,Sam獲第六十九屆香港校際音樂節薩克斯管高級組冠軍。二零一八年,他於第七十屆香港校際音樂節柏斯吹管樂公開組取得冠軍及獎學金。二零一九年,他獲邀在第七十一屆香港學校音樂節開幕酒會中作個人演出。此後,他更與香港管弦樂團於二零一九慈善音樂會同台演奏,並獨奏葛拉茲諾夫薩克斯管協奏曲。二零二零年,Sam獲二零二零Grand Prize Virtuoso「薩爾茨堡」國際大賽一等獎。今年,他獲第十屆意大利「馬薩城市」國際大賽二等獎,以及二零二一北部國際音樂大賽季軍。
